Acupuncture & Integrated Therapies

At Gleamy acupuncture centre, we provide a range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies to support your health and well-being. Each treatment is customized to your unique condition, with a focus on restoring balance, relieving symptoms, and promoting long-term healing.

Types of Acupuncture

Manual Acupuncture

This is the most recognized form of acupuncture therapy. Fine, sterile needles are gently inserted into specific acupoints on the body to regulate the flow of Qi and blood, ease pain, and support your body's natural healing processes. The number of needles used varies depending on the condition being treated, typically ranging from two to ten per session.

Electro-acupuncture (EA)

It works by combining traditional acupuncture with electrical stimulation to enhance therapeutic effects. The electrical pulses boost nerve activation, triggering the release of natural painkillers like endorphins and modulating pain signals in the brain and spinal cord. EA also regulates the nervous system, reduces inflammation, improves blood flow, and promotes tissue healing. Depending on the frequency used (low for chronic pain, high for acute pain), it can target different conditions, from migraines and arthritis to stress and digestive disorders. By integrating ancient principles with modern science, EA delivers controlled electrical pulses to needles, providing stronger and more consistent stimulation than manual acupuncture. Its efficacy is supported by growing clinical and experimental evidence.

Scalp Acupuncture

Targeted scalp points stimulate neurological pathways, making this technique ideal for conditions such as stroke recovery and motor dysfunction.

Auricular Acupuncture

Also known as ear acupuncture, this method involves stimulating specific points on the ear using fine needles or herbal seeds. The ear is seen as a microsystem reflecting the entire body, making this method useful for a wide range of physical and emotional health concerns. Ear acupuncture supports internal organ function and is commonly used for stress, anxiety, sleep issues, and pain management.

Abdominal Acupuncture

A gentle yet powerful technique that stimulates precise points on the abdomen (the umbilical region) to address internal conditions like pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, stress, emotional imbalances, and fatigue with minimal needles. Based on TCM principles, this approach activates the body’s self-healing response by regulating Qi, improving organ function, and balancing the nervous system—making it ideal for sensitive patients or those seeking deep, holistic relief without extensive needling. Fewer needles, profound results.

Warm Needle & Fire Needle Therapy

Combining acupuncture with moxibustion or heated needles to penetrate deeply into the meridians—used for chronic pain, cold-related conditions, and skin concerns.

Integrated TCM Therapies

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy uses gentle suction—created by specialised glass, silicone, or bamboo cups—to lift tissues, stimulate blood flow, and release deep muscle tension. This ancient technique improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes detoxification by drawing fresh blood to stagnant areas, making it ideal for treating back/neck pain, sports injuries, and chronic stiffness. Often combined with acupuncture, cupping may leave temporary circular marks that fade within days—a normal sign of releasing trapped tension. Safe and non-invasive, it offers profound relief for athletes, desk workers, and anyone seeking natural pain relief.

Tuina
tuina

Tuina is a traditional Chinese medical massage that combines targeted pressure, kneading, and stretching techniques to relieve pain, improve mobility, and restore energy flow. This dynamic treatment goes beyond relaxation—it eases back/neck stiffness, joint discomfort, and sports injuries while breaking up fascial adhesions to enhance circulation and range of motion. By stimulating acupressure points and meridians, Tuina also supports organ function and addresses internal imbalances related to digestion, respiration, and stress. Often paired with acupuncture, this precise hands-on therapy uses rolling, pressing, and tapping movements tailored to your needs, offering a unique blend of deep tissue work and healing touch without oils or downtime.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a heat therapy that involves the burning of moxa—dried mugwort leaf (Artemisia vulgaris)—either directly on or near the skin or attached to acupuncture needles. This warming technique is used to strengthen the body, dispel cold, and promote the smooth flow of Qi and blood through the meridians.

Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient healing method that uses the hands, fingers, or even feet to apply firm, gentle pressure to specific acupoints. It promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and helps release muscle tension. Acupressure and acupuncture target the same points, but acupressure does not involve the use of needles.

Gua Sha (scraping therapy)
tuina

Gua Sha is a safe, non-invasive, and deeply soothing traditional healing technique that uses gentle scraping motions with a smooth-edged tool to release tension, improve circulation, and promote the body’s natural healing processes. By stimulating the skin and underlying tissues, Gua Sha helps relieve muscle and joint pain—easing stiffness in the neck, shoulders, back, and limbs—while reducing inflammation to support recovery from injuries and chronic conditions. It enhances circulation for healthy blood flow and lymphatic drainage, detoxifies and refreshes the skin by reducing puffiness and promoting collagen, and releases stress and tension by calming the nervous system for deep relaxation. Whether used for pain relief, beauty, or overall wellness, this time-tested practice offers a natural way to rejuvenate your body and mind.

Other modalities such as infrared heat therapy and laser acupuncture may also be incorporated into treatment when appropriate. Each technique may be used individually or in combination, depending on your unique condition and treatment goals.
